As part of The Lordship Rec Community Festival, N17

Saturday 12th September 2009 – 12 Noon to 5pm

Home Grown Flowers, Fruit & Vegetables & Home Produce & Handicrafts, Cakes, Baking & Cream Teas, Farm Animals & Horse riding, Green Stalls & Children’s Activities & Fancy Dress & Pedal-powered Performance Stage. ADMISSION FREE! REGISTRATION BY POST OR EMAIL (see below).
Hello there! Will you be coming to the the Lordship Rec Community Festival on Saturday, 12th September?? Back 2 Earth have comandeered a whole section of the festival which will be centred around our annual Tottenham Flower and Produce Show. This is an opportunity for all of Haringey’s green-fingered gardeners, allotment owners and back-garden wonder workers to get involved and show how abundant this borough is for growing fresh produce. There are so many categories which people can enter, not just fruit and vegetables…

So if you didn’t know about our marquee then please have a look through the leaflets attached to this e-mail. And even if you don’t enter (even with categories for best weed, flower arranging, minature gardens, jam making etc), we’d love you to come along on the day, to see some beautiful flowers and produce. And join in with the general community atmosphere. There is a lot going on, literally, fun for all the family.

We hope to see you there

regards

Monday August 3rd, 6.30pm

@ Broadwater Farm Community Centre, 1 Adams Rd, N17
All welcome!

Invitation to all local community groups
Once again the Lordship Rec Users Forum is organising its annual community festival and we’re inviting you and your members to get involved! Last year 3,000 people attended and participated (see below for a report). The festival is a key part of the ongoing efforts to showcase the potential of the park, encourage greater usage, continue to develop community-led partnership working, and to pursue the regeneration of Tottenham’s largest green open space.

The Users Forum is a partnership of the Friends of Lordship Rec, Haringey Parks Dept, local residents associations, Back To Earth projects, environmental and conservation groups, Broadwater Farm Community Centre, Neighbourhood Management officers, and other interested organisations. For the last 6 years we have been working in partnership to restore and regenerate Tottenham’s largest but most neglected public green space so that it can become once again a District Park that Haringey can be proud of.
Improvements already achieved include new active play areas, new paths, on-site staffing, and restoration of the lake and woodland areas. The children’s playground is currently being replaced and refurbished.

Last year Haringey Council successfully bid to the Lottery Fund for £4m to be earmarked to carry out major works including restoration of the River Moselle and the historic Model Traffic Area, development of an environmental centre and city farm, and overhaul of the general infrastructure (eg paths, entrances and furniture). That funding will be released following certain conditions being fulfilled including detailed designs and match funding. We are particularly pleased that, in a recent ‘plebescite’ run by the Mayor of London, Lordship Rec gained the most votes of any North London park and hence received an additional £400,000 funding. We thank everyone who helped publicise it or who voted!

The Council will be lodging a ‘Phase Two’ application in September 2009 to the Heritage Lottery Fund which will hopefully secure the funding sought. If so, the regeneration works will be implemented during 2010 and 2011.

As public discussion is still ongoing on the bid and all the improvement plans, and the Heritage Lottery Fund will be considering the final application to release the grant, it is vital that we all work together to showcase our willingness to support the future of the Rec.

We are inviting everyone who supports this restoration effort to help us organise our community festival this coming September. We are therefore writing to you to canvas your support and to ascertain what form your support could take.

We invite you to:

On September 13th 2008 around 3000 people attended the ‘Restore the Rec’ Community Festival. The festival was organised by the Lordship Rec Users Forum with the aim of showcasing the great potential of the Rec to coincide with the Lottery bid efforts.

The 2008 festival involved using every part of the park and the aim was to encourage local community organisations to put on a wide range of activities in order to involve and provide something for everyone. See below for a detailed summary of what happened last year. The aim is to do the same this year, but hopefully even better – with your active involvement and support!

The Friends of Lordship Rec took on responsibility for the overall coordination of the infrastructure of the festival and publicity but each activity put on at the festival was organised autonomously by various groups and individuals. The general organisation was truly community-led and organised through open planning meetings. One of the main successes of the day was that it was all participatory. This encouraged people to talk to each other and play together. Not only was there good council/community partnership working but the Council worked well across departments to make the festival a success.

The final cost of the festival was around £13,000 from various grants and Council departments in addition to many hundreds of hours of voluntary work by the Friends and local residents. We are all agreed that we want to continue to make this festival a yearly event on the Haringey Calendar, and focus the festival on green issues and conservation, health and social inclusion.

Last year, the following activities were organised by a wide range of groups and organisations:

Tottenham Flower & Produce Show, with displays and competitions for home grown and home made vegetables, fruit, flower-arrangements, cakes, emboidery and much more [organised by Back To Earth]

Lordship Rec Community Festival – Sept 12th 2009

Festival planning meeting:Monday 29th June, 6.30pm @ Broadwater Farm Community Centre, 1 Adams Rd, N17

All welcome
